Ok... so it's probably true that the presence of bitters in a recipe is not evidence of excessive foodie snobbery. My foodie friend, Josh Baugher, called me out in an email where he also shared the following insights about the other ingredients in "The Widow's Touch" recipe I critiqued earlier:
"Applejack - you can special order through abc, St-Germain - you can
special through abc, Benedictine - you can special order through abc,
and angostura - you can get at martin's
I recommend Peychaud's and Regan's orange bitters as well (I had to
get those online). If you can get those locally, I don't know where.
I've had a hard time acquiring certain alcohols: Lemonhart 151 Demera
Rum, Luxardo Maraschino Liquor, Bol's brand Orange Curaçao, Green
Chartreuse *, Dubonnet, Lillet Blanc, Benedictine*
*I think I can special order these through ABC (well I know for sure
about char and benedictine b/c i saw those at blacksburg abc store,
shoulda grabbed them then)"
The fact that Josh has investigated the availability of these alcohols indicates to me that he's far more hard core than I am. I'm ok with that. He's always welcome to bring them over, and I'll gladly drink them!
