May 15th - Old Friends!
It's funny, because last year it was really easy to give labels to different nights of Cafe Davis. They were all countries. But this year, I'm struggling to come up with ways to describe people. Since I gave the group on the 14th the label of "New Friends," I decided to go with "Old Friends" for this group of people. In attendance were Andrew and Nicki Barnes, Miriam Dickler, and Sohrab Najafabadi. Andrew is the Assistant Coach for the debate team at JMU. Nicki is his lovely bride who keeps him in line. Miriam, you may recall, is making a repeat appearance at Cafe Davis. Oh, and her official title is "Public Information Officer" for the City of Harrisonburg. I still maintain that she does PR of some sort, despite the fact that it annoys her. Ha ha. Sohrab is one of the JMU debaters, and a fun guy to hang out with. He was a good sport tonight too... we really did enjoy hearing his stories, although it was hard for him to tell them through all of the good-natured joking. Dinner tonight was cumin beef kebabs, spicy chickpea salad, roasted asparagus with lemon, and Bass Ale. I also put out the leftover broccoli and tomato salad from last night, got everyone to finish off the french bread with eggplant spread, and made brown rice to compliment the kebabs. Everyone in attendance is probably thinking... hmmm... chickpea salad? Where was that? Well, um... I kind of forgot to take it out of the refrigerator. Sorry! After dinner we headed to the bar again. We played pseudo-darts, bar games, and chatted. Then we got out the "20 Questions" game. Such an amazing device. We managed to stump it with avalanche. But it guessed slot machine when we were thinking of a roulette table. Close enough, in our book. Now the Cafe is closed for a bit while Mike host's the CEDA summer meeting at JMU. We'll be back late next week for more fun!
